St Francis Animal Welfare is a registered charity which relies on donation and sponsorships for the ongoing care and feeding of any animals coming into our care.
St Francis has a working committee which organises jumble sales, mini markets, flag days, bazaars, open days and raffles, backed up by a loyal band of helpers. It would not be possible to keep the shelter operating without these fund raising events and the generosity of support from legacies, donations and membership fees, so volunteers and fundraisers are always needed to continue the good work.
Here are some ways in which you could help us:-
Make a donation - We welcome any donations of animal food. If you would like to donate a sum of money to the shelter, please click here to go to our Donate page.
Sponsor an animal - You can sponsor your favourite shelter animal, and we will provide you with a Certificate of Sponsorship, photos of the animal, and an update on its progress. Please click here to go to our Sponsor an Animal page.
Volunteer at the shelter - feeding and grooming the animals, as well as cleaning their accommodation. Please note, the minimum age for volunteers is 14. Please contact the shelter Manageress, Ann Hillman, on 02380 693282.
Assist with fundraising or promotional events - Throughout the year, St Francis will hold a number of fundraising and promotional events, which help to raise the profile of our work at the shelter, as well as bring in much-needed funds. If you can spare an hour or two to either man a stall or provide cover for street collections, then please email us at fundraising@sfaw.co.uk (please include a relevant subject heading in your email, or it may be treated as junk mail (spam) by our email account). CAKES ! We need some lovely cakes to sell at our Jumble Sales and Open Days! These always sell out, and are a great and yummy way to raise funds. If you can help, please email us on fundraising@sfaw.co.uk
E-Fundraiser - Become an e-fundraiser! Set up your own free personal homepage, where friends, family and colleagues can make donations. Ideal if you are taking part in a sponsored event, or celebrating a special occasion. Please visit the bmycharity website for details, on www.bmycharity.com, or contact us on fundraising@sfaw.co.uk, and we will be happy to help you with setting this up your own page.
There is a help sheet to start you off here. Please note, you need to have Adobe Reader to be able to view the help sheet. If you do not have this, you can download it for free by clicking on the Get Adobe Reader logo at the bottom of this page.
Entertainer - providing entertainment at our popular Summer and/or Autumn open days.
Cat sitter/dog walker - We have many resident cats who enjoy human company, and would love to keep your lap warm in return. As well as the occasional cuddle, some of them also regularly need their coats to be brushed, to avoid them becoming tangled and matted. Any dogs which are available for adoption are regularly taken for walks. The minimum age for volunteer cat sitters is 14, whilst dog walkers must be aged 16 or over. Please contact the shelter Manageress, Ann Hillman, on 02380 693282.
Donate your old, broken or unwanted mobile phones - We have joined forces with Foneaid for their Mobile Phone Recycling Campaign. Foneaid will donate £3 to St Francis for every mobile phone we collect, and they accept phones in any condition and of any age - even if the battery is missing, or the screen is cracked! Ask your friends and family if they have any old or broken phones, and bring them all along to our shelter (your friends, family AND the phones!). Foneaid will also donate £100 of vouchers to St Francis for every 100 phones we collect! A collection bag will be available in our Reception Area, or you can leave your phones with a member of staff.
Create a legacy - Have you considered leaving a legacy to St Francis Animal Welfare in your Will? If you are changing your current Will, it should cost you nothing to include a paragraph, donating a sum to St Francis. We have the assistance of local solicitors, ML Law, who are available to give free instant quotes, should you wish to draw up a brand new Will. Your legacy would be a tax free gift (not subject to inheritance tax). You could also incorporate a provision that St Francis look after any existing pets on your death, therefore relieving your friends or relatives of looking for a new home for your loved pet. For further information, then please contact us at legacy@sfaw.co.uk.
We also have various ways in which your business could help us, in return for which we can help you promote your products or services. Click here for details.
